In this workshop, participants will learn alternative education strategies from the perspective of four different educators: the founder and principal of Attleboro Community Academy, two classroom teachers, and the guidance and support services coordinator. The workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive picture of a school grounded in the principles of experiential learning, student voice, and shared ownership.
Participants will learn how to de-escalate conflict and nurture a safe learning environment by reviewing actual classroom situations and practicing real-time strategies that support shared voice in conflict resolution. Participants will examine how educators can fuse principles of engagement with experiential learning and will explore strategies that enable students to take charge of their own learning. Finally, participants will learn how leveraging community resources can provide an additional layer of support for students and the school.
